I WEEDED OUT SOME ROCKS, SHELLS, AND BONES. HOW MANY POUNDS OF ROCKS CAN YOU CARRY AROUND? HERE IS THE ART I LEFT FOR OTHERS TO FIND.

After more than a year of using all our funds to have things squared away on the truck and trailer, we finally had enough money to do some renovations. A long awaited closet shelf over the water tanks was at the top of my list. Tal wanted to add baseboards to the unfinished walls in the bedroom, bathroom and hallway. He put in a good amount of time working on the plumbing. He hooked up an Ultra Violet Sterilight to our water system. It is a purification system used to purify water and is a necessity when we fill our tanks from any source other than city water.
We bought a thin sheet of plywood and had it cut in one foot strips and then stained them for the baseboards. Since our ceilings are nine feet high, there was a foot gap under the sheet rock that had been put in. It is so nice to sit on the toilet and not see under the sheet rock into the hallway.
I also made a curtain for the hallway. Eventually, I want to put canned food storage in the hallway as it is now just wasted space. I wanted to be able to close the curtain against eyes that don’t need to see that part of our house, and keep the heat from the wood stove up front.
We still have a few projects to go, but overall it is becoming very cozy in our 424 square foot home, and is looking more like a real house all the time. I can’t wait to have a water faucet in the kitchen that will have both cold and hot water running out of one spigot. A new kerosene oven is on the way, so we are stepping right up in the world of Off Grid living. I will be sure to share how our oven works. We will also be able to use it outside so having a portable oven will increase our options. We can remove the oven from the burner and use it as an outdoor cook stove for canning. I’m really excited to bake all kinds of things, but do have a worry that all those baked goodies will increase our waistlines. We have stayed in great shape by eating very little baked goods. I’m not going to turn it down though, and I can already smell the home-baked bread, and I promised to make Tal cranberry muffins for breakfast, yum!
After the work was done, our friend Kent took us up on the mountain so that we could get a Christmas branch for me to decorate. What a fun day that was!
As the holidays were approaching we made arraignments to have Thanksgiving with friends. They recommended that we park by a fire station. The chief welcomed us with open arms and we had a view of the whole Las Vegas valley. It was beautiful beyond words especially at night as the lights twinkled like millions of gold nuggets.
A good time was had by all, and I took advantage of taking a long hot shower. Our shower works just fine and we now have two shower heads (one of our latest renovations). However, we only have a five gallon hot water tank. I did my best to use all forty gallons of hot water at my friend’s house!
One thing about life, it’s always full of surprises. Eighteen years ago I was thrown into a situation I never would have dreamed of. A niece by marriage was in a whole lot of trouble. I was going to college to fine hone my skills as a writer. My professor told me, “The only thing you are missing is a subject to write about.” Low and behold, a subject fell into my lap. I spent the next year traveling with my niece back and forth to New York City where she would have to go to court. I would write my first book about my niece, Autumn Jackson, who would be found guilty of attempted extortion against Bill Cosby. It was an interesting story to say the least, but by the time I finished writing it, no one was interested, it was old news. However, timing does tend to come back around and this is the time to publish the book. This is a compelling story about a whole lot gone wrong.
I apologize for being remiss in my postings and hope you will understand my tardiness. I will stick with this the best I can while finishing up the promotions for my book.
